I am trying to remember more and more each day to lighten up and not take myself 2 seriously. Ever since I got really sick (last month) I’ve realized that life is really short. We are WAY to uptight sometimes, so today I’m having a good laugh…at myself (make sure you see my story at the end of this post).
One of the major causes of stress is worrying about things that are out of our control. Let’s commit together to learn to recognize these things. If we can’t truly do anything about them, then just let them go. More and more I am taking the time to laugh at myself and the situations I’ve found myself in (and boy do I have a lot of material!).
Laughter is a powerful, positive medicine and the calmer and more peaceful you can take things, the happier your life will be.
Be (my) yourself. You can’t please everybody. Don’t let criticism worry you. Don’t compare yourself to other people – at work or in your personal life. In the first place, no one knows what other people are going through. More importantly, when you compare yourself to other people, you always tend to see yourself on the “short end”. So this is never a good or helpful thing for you to do.
I’m learning all the time to get in touch with myself through journaling (my blog, the LiFeTrain). Give it a try, the goal is to open up completely to yourself and learn to be your best friend by knowing that the truth (to yourself) will set you free from fear! Practice self-acceptance no matter what. Never do something you’re not comfortable with. You’ll respect yourself for sticking to your guns, and that self-respect will make you happy.
So what if you fall flat on your face? Or get spinach stuck in your teeth? Learn to laugh at yourself both when it happens and afterwards. Turn it into a funny story that you can share with others. It lets them know that you’re not perfect and makes you feel more at ease, too.
Now how’s this one, “GOT MILK? …Keep It!”:
I was in a store a while back (last winter), my stomach was really cramping at the time. Lately me and my favorite drink, moo juice…“MILK!”…well we have not been getting along (old age/lactose I guess) but we were still in love.
Anyway…seconds earlier, I happened to walk past this sister. Now, when I say she was fine…she was so fine…I wanted to find her parents and congratulate them on creating a creature such as this.
Believe it or not I used to actually be a tad shy many years ago…BUT…now…I am rarely…if ever…at a lost for words with women. Heck…at my age (and salary)…who would want me anyway…that’s my attitude. I now figure…I got nothing to lose…or offer for that matter (LOL!). I’ll step to the queen of England now and boldly say…”Sup Gurl!”
…But …when that Angel said hi, I must confess, I uttered something in a language that I think meant hi(?)
A few minutes later I was standing at the (upright) milk cooler. …Now, I had a suede like black shirt on. It must’ve been a nice shirt because I had gotten a few compliments before, whenever I wore it. Maybe it made my stomach look smaller or something. Anyway…There I stood, when I felt…well “touched by an angel”. I felt this hand rubbing my back. When I turned around there she stood! “Nice shirt she said”, “I just wanted to see if it was suede” she continued.
…A look of Horror came over my face! …OH FREAKIN NO!
PLEASE…Noooooooo….
Remember I said my stomach was cramping? I had just looked left, looked right, but… I didn’t look back before…well…
It was “The” MOAB (Mother of All Bombs!).…and of course the mushroom cloud delayed until just the right moment…
…needless to say, didn’t get the phone number and I never saw her again…I’ve never had eyes rolled at me like that before or ever again as she hurriedly walked away…
True story …
Got Milk, KEEP IT!
You men are so lucky that you don’t get PMS.
She only had to deal with that explosion once – I had to deal with it on a nightly basis during the course of our growing up in good ole Springfield, OH-10!
Ah….my first real laugh of the day. Too funny!
Tammy
You’re kidding, right – no, really this IS just your stab at the Last Comic Standing, right!
Totally true! This stuff only happens to me!
Tonya,
Believe him, it really happened.
